AVID Seek 'Re-energy' for 2008
When AVID announced their NAB 2008 pull out last November they also said further announcements were coming Feb '08. Well read March '08 and those were given last week by new Executive vice president and general manager, Avid Video, Kirk Arnold.
Kirk isn't from this industry but from companies that have leveraged tech firms and re-energised 'sleeping giants'. Through Kirk's US management-speak there were a few solid announcements about how AVID goes forward. Major of these was a 50% reduction of their Media Composer software and a software merge with Xpress Pro which means Media Composer becomes a one stop shop product for about £1500 with graphics, audio as well as the industry standard interface. Final Cut Studio is about £850.
Other announcements were about increased online presence with better forums and support, also cheaper deals for students – about $295 for Media Composer. (No UK pricing yet).
These announcements are just the start of the re-energy that Kirk is planning for 2008. Others will follow.
