Weisscam's T-Cam Extends Its Own Life With 'Swap-out' Approach

WEISSCAM showed the very first samples of its interchangeable 4K sensorboard at NAB 2012

Weisscam also came to NAB with a camera bundle which they called ‘Sweet 16’. The deal pairs the T-Cam with ARRI‘s Ultra 16 lenses.Based on the SOHA platform WEISSCAM showed the very first samples of its interchangeable 4K sensorboard at NAB 2012. The possibility to switch to a 4K Super35 sized sensor without buying a new camera is one of the main features of the modular concept of T-CAM.

WEISSCAM promotes the idea that a camera should be a long lasting product and therefore developed the SOHA platform, which is the technical base of every T-CAM. Instead of replacing the whole camera, WEISSCAM only exchanges the sensorboard to keep the T-CAM always up to date with the newest sensor technology.

All customers, who are now buying a T-CAM with a 2/3“ sensor inside, will be able to upgrade to the 4K sensorboard once it is finished.

As Weisscam DoP and CEO, Stefan Weiss comments: “We always wanted to develop a platform that outlasts the short product cycles that are current within the industry. With our new SOHA platform we can build cameras that are long lasting, extendable, flexible and always easy to use.”

Parts that can be changed or be part of SOHA include an interchangeable sensor board (2/3”; Super16 and Super35 format). A high performance interface (up to 1,200MB/s) for industry standard recorders. Uncompressed RAW and HD output.

Sensor boards can be changed to cover all formats or to upgrade the hardware to the latest sensor design without the need to buy a new camera.

Weisscam also came to NAB with a camera bundle which they called ‘Sweet 16’. The deal pairs the T-Cam with ARRI‘s Ultra 16 lenses.

Stefan Weiss commented: “Shooting with the SWEET 16 production bundle offers you a really compact high-end creative solution. With a total weight of just 3 kilos (6.6 lbs) you can shoot up to 340fps, have a T-Stop of T1.3, a close focus up to 0,2m (from film plane) and a beautiful, cinematic depth of field”.

The deal was:

• 30% discount on one T-CAM and three ARRI Ultra16 lenses.

• You can get only the T-CAM, only the three ARRI Ultra16 lenses or all together as SWEET 16 production bundle - everything discounted by 30%.

• Weisscam is also offering the complete set of nine ARRI Ultra16 lenses at a very special price during NAB.
