Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut (Terminator Salvation, Act of Valor) is using eight of the lightweight Codex OnBoard 5 recorders to support the more than 35 cameras that are being used to shoot the film—often under the most extreme conditions.

Looking just like the existing XA10 camcorder which is really a 'palm corder', Canon has release details on it's big brothers, the XA20 & XA25. These models are still small and very light at around 2.6 pounds (1.18Kg). Both camcorders feature multiple shooting-assist functions and a newly developed wide-angle 20x HD zoom lens with an ENG-style “rocker” zoom control and built-in real-time optical image stabilisation.There is also a new sensor a high-sensitivity 2.91-megapixel 1/2.84-inch HD CMOS image sensor managed by the new Canon DIGIC DV 4 image processor.
CANON has launched their new KJ20x8.2B KRSD – a multipurpose 2/3inch HD zoom lens. The new lens has been designed for camera operators who want superior quality in applications such as wedding and corporate videos, education films and documentaries.
CANON has extended it’s Cinema EOS System with the addition of two new prime lenses to its EF Cinema Lens line-up – the new CN-E 14mm T3.1 L F and the CN-E 135mm T2.2 L F. Both lenses are good for 4K resolutions.

An extension of ‘bullet time’ featured 96 still cameras and two 4K JVC video cameras in a 300˚ arc to help capture the auditions for Sky’s popular dance show.
Now we are a few years down the road of using stills cameras as movie tools, there is a wealth of information and help out there for those who want to use them. There is using them for small productions and there is shooting with them for an entire movie which is what the Brandi Brothers have done
Canon was still garnering headlines today at NAB 2012 with not one but two new camera capable of recording 4K signals. They were however at either end of the market, one the 1D-C was the realisation of the ‘Cinema DSLR’ tease back when they launched the C300 cinema camera last November. The real surprise was the C500, nearly identical to the C300, indeed with the same sensor but also with the ability to shoot 4K RAW signals out of two 3G enabled HD SDI connections (see picture below) to achieve 2160x4096 4K at 10-bit quality.
It seems that the death of the video DSLR might have been exaggerated. Canon and Nikon have introduced in the last month three new DSLRs with video abilities that might have answered many of the questions that professionals shooters have of them.
